Bitumen is primarily used as a binder in road paving. In asphalt production plants, it is heated and mixed with aggregates, or it is used in a water emulsion or with cold recycling techniques. Due to its adhesive and cohesive properties, as well as its high impermeability, bitumen is resistant to most acids and salts, ensuring long-lasting performance. It is a material that can be recycled indefinitely. Thanks to these properties, bitumen is the primary material used in road paving and maintenance.

In accordance with the requirements set forth in UNI EN 12591, Alma Petroli is authorized to produce and sell the following types of road paving bitumen: 20/30, 35/50, 50/50, 70/100, 100/150, and 160/220.

As per UNI EN 12591, the following types of naturally emulsifiable bitumen can be obtained by refining naphthenic crude oils: 70/100E, 100/150E, and 160/220E.
Due to the nature of our production process, careful selection of raw materials, and Quality Control System, the bitumen produced by the Alma Petroli refinery meets the maximum resistance to aging (severity level 1) as set out in EN 12591. Its typical values for various properties and analytical characteristics significantly exceed the minimum requirements indicated in the standard.

Alma Petroli bitumens feature:

• Excellent resistance to cold;
• Excellent behavior at high operating temperatures;
• Excellent resistance to aging;

These characteristics make them particularly suitable for use in road paving.
